Fair Trade Father’s Day – historically, this special day has been a celebration honouring fathers and celebrating fatherhood, paternal bonds and the influence of fathers in society.
It is celebrated in the UK on the third Sunday of June and complements Mother’s Day, the celebration honouring mothers.
However, these days, like most things, the essence of the celebration has been lost to rampant commercialism.
Taking your Dad to McDonald’s, buying him a video game, or something from Tesco will be all that most kids will do to mark the occasion.
Why not stop for a moment and think about fathers around the developing world who are struggling to make a living in order to support their families.
Fair Trade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade for workers and craftspeople in places such as Asia, South America and Africa. The price paid for the goods is socially just and a realistic reflection of the needs of the makers.
Now, doesn`t that sound good?
If it does, why not take action and have a Fair Trade Father’s Day this year?
By shopping online with The FAIR Trade Store you will be “helping to make a difference” AND giving Dad a unique, handmade gift that will really stand out from his usual presents.
That way, you will be benefiting hard-working fathers in some of the poorest countries in the world too.
And I have made things easy for you, by selecting the very best products and gifts for men in their own department of the online shop.
Why not have a browse?
