Established in 1993 and based in New Delhi, India with 14 employees, Aspiration International are a relatively small Fair Trade manufacturing and export organisation looking to promote the work and welfare of artisans and families all over India, including Jaipur and Sarangapur. Artisans are paid fair wages for the products they create and they benefit from financial support for small tools, raw materials and their children’s education.
Aspiration’s objective is to help underpriviledged workers develop cottage industries, improve their economic and social welfare and provide fair wages, which hopefully will lead to them becoming independent artisans.
Now, at least 95% of their artisans have got their own workshops and are giving work to the other craftsman working under their supervision.
In fact, artisans who were working 10 or 15 years ago as daily workers for big manufacturers have now become self-respected artisans in their own community. That’s a real Fair Trade success story!
Aspiration also emphasises the importance of tree plantation and asks producer groups to adopt at least two trees a year and supervise their protection & growth.
Aspiration specialise in manufacturing wood products, such as hand-carved sheesham wood jewellery storage boxes, stone ornaments and costume jewellery.
