Did you know?
Kantha means “patched cloth”.
Pronounced “khan-taa”, it is a small, straight, running stitch used in Indian embroidery, but Originally found in Bengal, Bangladesh, Odisha and Tripura.

It has become a generational skill passed down from mother to daughter and in Bengali families, for example, it can be traced back at least 500 years.
It was a way the Bengali women recycled old saris, dhotis and household textiles.
By using the kantha technique, they basically “up-cycled” their old textiles into quilts for warmth and comfort.
