Did you know?
Sheesham wood is a very versatile, durable and sustainable material for craft-making, as it is resistant to fungus, pests, termites and wood rot and will not warp quickly.
Due to its hardwood nature and its ability to survive in extreme weather conditions such as extreme cold or high rains, the deciduous trees can be grown easily in India where the climate is hot and humid.
The trees are fast-growing, reaching maturity in 15-20 years compared to 80-90 years for hardwoods like teak and can flourish in poor soil, extreme temperatures and even drought conditions!
Sheesham wood (sometimes spelt shesham or shisham) is a protected wood under the CITES regulations.
The products for sale on this website are licensed as originating from sustainable plantations in India, where it grows abundantly.
Sheesham’s botanical details are “Dalbergia sissoo” and it is a hardwood often referred to as “Indian Rosewood” and is native to the Indian subcontinent.
Please note:
common characteristics of the wood include a hand-waxed finish and a rich, fine grain. It is an odourless wood.
Wipe clean with a dry cloth.
It responds well to most quality wax furniture polish.
Do not use a silicone spray cleaner.
