Did you know?
Water buffalo horn carving is an ancient skill handed down from generation to generation.
Their sale helps support rural farmers by giving them an outlet to benefit from the sale of horns when their buffalo dies from natuaral causes (usually a time of great sadness and economic hardship for the families – the Thais love their buffalo and treat them almost as part of the family!).
Farmers use the buffalo for transporting heavy loads.
Rice cultivation in the fields would be virtually impossible without their help.
They can live for up to 25 years.
The Thai Government has an initiative to promote water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) as Thailand’s economic animals and main labour force for rural farmers.
